Organized by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure, Live Aid raised over $150 million for famine relief in Ethiopia, demonstrating the power of collective action and the impact of music on global issues.

A Historic Concert

On July 13, 1985, some of the biggest names in music performed at Wembley Stadium in London and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, broadcasting to an audience of 1.9 billion people across 150 countries.

Phil Collins made history by performing at both venues, traveling from Wembley to London's Heathrow Airport by helicopter, then boarding a British Airways Concorde flight to New York City, before taking another helicopter to Philadelphia.

The Legacy of Live Aid

Live Aid's legacy extends far beyond the music itself.

The event raised awareness about the Ethiopian famine and prompted a global response, with Western nations making available surplus grain to end the immediate hunger crisis in Africa.

The concert also catapulted the careers of several artists, including U2, who performed a 12-minute rendition of "Bad" that showcased their talent to a global audience.
